The family-style Sri Lankan restaurant offers vibrant and relaxed surroundings, with rattan covering the ceiling and old movie posters donning the walls. This is the second branch, after its hugely successful Soho venue.
While the restaurant itself is highly popular, the prices are reasonable, with extremely good-value food. What’s more, the enthusiastic staff in their orange polo shirts are very friendly and eager to educate you on Sri Lankan cuisine.
Try small dishes to share on tin plates, such as lamb kothu roti (fried cubes of spicy lamb with flat bread) with sides of sweet chutneys, enjoyed with a Ceylon Arrack or Lion Larger.
And don’t leave without trying string or egg hoppers (bowl-shaped noodles or pancakes).
Other options range from lamb, black pork or fish to red pumpkin and gourd with cashew, Bengali prawns or crisp and deeply meaty mutton rolls. Sip on an exotic Margarita to compensate for the absence of a dessert menu. But, if you’re the designated driver, Hoppers’ range of non-alcoholic drinks hit the spot. Why not try a Hot Sweet Metre Tea with a gently spicy warmth to it, or the refreshing Mango Slushie?
Definitely worth the infamous queue if delicious Sri Lankan small plates are your thing.
