Petersham Nurseries have come a long way since the Boglione family took over the plant nursery in Richmond in 2004, turning it into a restaurant, shop and teahouse. Surrounded by meadows along the Thames, it gained a loyal following and its former chef Skye Gyngell earned a Michelin star in 2011 and 2012. The nursery’s second branch opened in 2017 in a Grade II-listed townhouse in Floral Court in Covent Garden.
The immense site opened with a florist, deli, wine cellar and a home and garden shop featuring two original domed skylights. Like the family home in Richmond, it features vintage crystal chandeliers, Italian table linen and plenty of fresh blooms.
Then, in April, the Covent Garden branch opened two long-awaited new restaurants: La Goccia and The Petersham. The all-day restaurant La Goccia features an open kitchen with a grill and wood-fired oven, and offers an extensive menu made up of dishes made with seasonal ingredients. The Petersham meanwhile serves Italian à la carte dishes at lunch and dinner, focusing on seasonal produce such as fennel and edible flower salad, and rhubarb and almond tart decorated with petals, naturally. Accompany it with hand-picked Italian wines. Like the shop, it is inspired by the family home and decorated with art and Murano glassware, and visitors can buy candles, glasses and plates. Dining here really is as pretty as a picture.
