9:30am – 17:15pm

Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 monarchs.

Includes State Apartments furnished with art by Rembrandt, Rubens and Canaletto.
Changing the Guard alternate days 11am except Sun.

Windsor Castle offers an extraordinarily rich and varied day out, all on one site. A visit to the Castle includes the magnificent State Apartments. Which are furnished with some of the finest works from the Royal Collection. Among the masterpieces are paintings by Holbein, Rubens and Van Dyck, fine English and French furniture, and the tiny treasures of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House.

During the winter months, the sumptuous private apartments created by George IV, the Semi-State rooms are added to the visitor route.

Please note: that admission to Windsor Castle is busiest immediately after opening and throughout the morning. We recommend you arrive after midday if possible.

The State Apartments will be closed on:

2 May 2019; 16 May 2019; 14 June 2019; 16 June 2019 and 18 June 2019.

On these dates, The Precincts and Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House will continue to be open, unless otherwise stated below. Reduced admission charges will apply.

Windsor Castle will be closed on the following dates:

22 March 2019, 18 & 19 April 2019, 3 May 2019, 18 May 2019, 17 June 2019, 25 & 26 December 2019

Windsor Castle will be opening late on the following dates:

21 April 2019 (opens 1pm)

Windsor Castle will close early on the following dates:

Last admission 12:00 noon, last admission to State Apartments 12:30pm, closes 1pm

2 April 2019 and 28 April 2019

Last admission 3pm, last admission to State Apartments 3:30pm, closes 4pm

Queen Mary's Dolls' House

Please note that due to work being undertaken, as part of Future Programme, Queen Mary's Dolls' House at Windsor Castle will be closed to visitors from Friday, 6 July 2018, until further notice.

During the winter months an additional five rooms, known collectively as the Semi-State Rooms, are included in the visitor route. These rooms will re-open to the public from 26 October 2018 – March 2019 and standard admission charges apply. Please note that when the State Apartments are closed, the Semi-State Rooms will not be open.
