Don’t miss Regent Street’s monumentally elegant Christmas lights (pictured above). These look best if you take a photo from the pedestrian reservation that runs up the middle of the road.

Beautiful views are essential to any holiday, but Aqua Shard offers a mix of views and cute cakes. The Festive Tea (£49 per person) is a British taste tour featuring turkey and cranberry sandwiches and a gingerbread Christmas tree.

At Somerset House, there’s a miniature city that’s begging to be photographed – it’s constructed from gingerbread. Here, the pop-up Museum of Architecture presents Gingerbread City (from 7 Dec).

Crazy cocktail vessels are sure to get your Insta grid noticed (we recommend the Italian restaurant Circolo Populare), but Soho’s Scarlett Green is doing something more novel for Noel: cocktail fountains! Visit this Australian eatery during its ‘Scarlett Nights’ (Thur-Sat) and you’ll be served a set menu, 90 minutes of free-flowing beer, wine or Prosecco and a cocktail fountain for your table (£39.50 per person).

Classy London Christmas
Are you the type of Instagrammer who likes to carefully select the prettiest pictures for your feed? We bet you’re hunting for flickering candles, glowing lanterns and dramatic settings during your London Christmas. Take a trip to Candlelit Christmas at Ham House (to 5 Jan) – the mansion is filled with candles and festive foliage.

Eltham Palace offers a nocturnal wonderland with Enchanted Eltham (5-22 Dec), where projections, music and creative light installations fill a trail.

The Royal Albert Hall is exceedingly photogenic. This Kensington concert hall has a busy Christmas season, with many shows offering tickets up to the day of the performance. Guy Barker’s Big Band Christmas (19 Dec) adds a jazz twist to all of those classic tracks, courtesy of a scrum of instruments and special guest singers. Meanwhile, Carols at the Royal Albert Hall (21-24 Dec) is your chance to sing along as loud as you like with 5,500 other people.

The gingerbread pinecone (£7.10) by Dominique Ansel Bakery in Victoria looks like a pinecone, but it’s actually a delectable treat filled with mousse, ganache and cake.

Seek out the bakery mini-chain Bread Ahead, which is turning out panettone doughnuts (£4.50) for Christmas. Expect an explosion of zesty crème pâtissière, almond sugar, raisins and mixed fruit peel – buon Natale!

If you wish to encounter something truly bonkers, you need to eat the Christmas turkey dinner ice cream that’s available at Chin Chin in Soho (£5.95). This strange sundae combines turkey gravy caramel ice cream, sweet cranberry sauce, a pine nut stuffing tuille and, um, Brussels sprouts glitter.

Seeking out savoury? Then how about a traditional Russian recipe, refined by French chefs, given a Christmas twist and served in a Louisiana-inspired pub in Islington? This type of cultural mish-mashing is what London does best, so Plaquemine Lock’s turkey Kiev with cavalo nero is solid gold #London content (£35 for three courses and sides).

Paul bakery is once again producing its popular mince pie croissant (pictured below; £2.55) – and there’s nothing more Christmassy or British than a mince pie. There are more than 25 Paul branches in London.
