Video: interviewing Sam Bompas about London’s Lost Lagoon
As the popularity of immersive experiences has grown, so too has the name Bompas & Parr. The duo’s latest project is Lost Lagoon, an underground, rum-fuelled lagoon in Shepherd’s Bush. ’Immersive’ has become a label that London bars, restaurants and shows are using in order to attract a fashionable crowd. Bompas and Parr, however, are experts at putting on numerous truly immersive experiences – they created London’s first Food Film Festival, while their Dinner at the Twits show at The Vaults was a hit.
Lost Lagoon is not in the most glamorous location (West 12 Shopping Centre in Shepherd’s Bush), but once you’re inside it’s hard not to be impressed: the basement area is flooded with water and visitors row boats between islands, searching for ingredients.
We were greeted by pirates, magicians and sea captains, then asked to come up with a team name (four people per boat) and, of course, we were given spirits. It helps if you enjoy a little silliness, because you’re rowing your own boat and playing along with the actors. The mission is to solve clues, collect ingredients and create your own rum punch.
The good thing is that you get to decide exactly how your drink tastes, because there are so many flavours to choose from. When you’ve completed the boozy task, you can raise your glass and celebrate in the venue’s Neo-Tiki Lounge (below).
