It’s important to be as green as possible all year round, but when Londoners celebrate St Patrick’s Day in March, things get very emerald indeed.

Ireland’s world-famous national day celebrations begin in London with a vibrant, boisterous parade (13 Mar 2022) that stars at Hyde Park Corner. Revellers wind their way down through Piccadilly, St James’s Street, Pall Mall and Whitehall before gathering at Trafalgar Square.

The St Patrick’s Day Festival (13 Mar 2022). It takes over Trafalgar Square from noon until 6pm with Irish food stands and art showcases. On the temporary stage beneath Nelson’s Column, there will be live music, headlined by folk acts Damien Dempsey and Altan. Other performances will come from the Irish Elderly Pensioners Choir, Fiddler of London, Séamus & Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta, and more.

Elsewhere, there will be food stalls, with the main attraction being the food demos run by Anna Haugh of Myrtle Restaurant. Film screenings, choirs, dance performances, children’s workshops and more will also be dotted around the square.

It’s all in honour of Ireland’s foremost patron saint, who died on 17 Mar 461 AD and famously used Irish shamrocks to explain the Christian holy trinity.
