The Original Tour launches London’s first fully electric sightseeing bus
We’re thrilled to hear that London’s sightseeing scene has just taken a big, green step into the future. The Original Tour has just launched the capital’s first, fully electric hop-on hop-off double-decker open-top sightseeing bus.
The bright-green, carbon-free bus is charged overnight, which takes 4.5 hours and means that it can run for 150km on a single charge. The bus started running on Saturday 13 October and its guide commentary includes extra facts and details about London’s environmentally friendly side.
If you want to catch it, the green bus follows The Original Tour’s Yellow route, which includes St Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Gherkin. The company’s plan is to convert all of its buses, with three more electric buses being introduced in 2019.
There on launch day, London’s Deputy Mayor for Environment & Energy, Shirley Rodrigues (above, in the middle), was delighted: ‘To help tackle the air pollution health crisis in London we have taken bold action to ‘green’ the bus fleet and cut toxic vehicle emissions, and it is fantastic that we now have the UK’s first fully electric sightseeing bus on the capital’s streets.’ The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is planning to reduce London’s air pollution with the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), due to launch in central London on 8 April 2019.
