Vegetarian restaurants in London
It’s currently National Vegetarian Week in the UK, so we’ve collected up all of the London veggie restaurants that we recommend – and dishes you can try there right now.
What is it? This informal, brasserie-style restaurant serves regularly changing dishes influenced by world cuisines
What can I order? Wood-roasted mushroom and ale pie, minted mushy peas and chips (£12); Sri Lankan curry with sweet potato, green beans, roasted lime cashew nuts, pea basmati rice and coconut tomato sambal (£13)
Where is it? There are four Mildreds restaurants in London: Camden, Dalston, King’s Cross and Soho (above)
What is it? Offering plenty of choice for both vegetarians and vegans, at Tibits you select from crunchy salads, hot dishes and healthy puddings yourself, then pay for your food depending on how much the plate weighs
What can I order? There are 40 dishes on offer daily, including apple and ginger salads, Egyptian koshari, and a roast of chestnuts, mushrooms and cashew nuts (lunch/dinner costs £2.40/£2.70 per 100g)
Where is it? There are two Tibits restaurants in London: Bankside and Regent Street
What is it? Serving a pan-Indian menu, Woodlands has been in London since 1981 and caters for veggies, vegans and diners who are intolerant to gluten
What can I order? Saag paneer curry (spiced spinach and Indian cheese curry, £8.70); Malabar pepper medu vada (fried lentil doughnuts with Sambar and coconut chutney, £6.50)
Where is it? There are three Woodlands restaurants in London: Hampstead, Marylebone and Soho
What is it? This smart, good-value family of Indian restaurants isn’t strictly vegetarian, but there are plenty of options on the menu – especially this week
What can I order? Hyderabadi mumtazi vegetable biryani with fresh green herbs, saffron, turmeric and raita (£14.50)
Where is it? There are seven Masala Zone restaurants in London: Bayswater, Camden, Covent Garden, Earls Court, Islington, inside Selfridges (Oxford Street) and Soho
What is it? This beautifully decorated destination (above) isn’t entirely veggie, but the delicious menu is largely dedicated to vegetables
What can I order? Roasted aubergine, almond yoghurt, pickled red chillies, spiced almonds (£9.80); Valdeón cheesecake, pickled beetroot, almonds, thyme honey (£12.90)
