A letter from the Mayor of London: Sadiq Khan
Welcome to London this September
There’s plenty to see as the Totally Thames Festival returns, celebrating life on and around London’s world-famous river. Visit The Ship of Tolerance (from 4 Sep) at Millennium Bridge: its silk-panelled sails have been hand-painted by children to celebrate diversity. At Ham House in Richmond (12 Sep), more than 300 traditional boats including Chinese dragon boats, skiffs and Viking long ships race in The Great River Race.
Africa Utopia (13-15 Sep), part of my Africa in London scheme, comes to the Southbank Centre with art, music and debates. The line-up includes Ozwald Boateng, Denise Lewis and Akala.
London Design Festival (14-22 Sep) brings together prominent designers for exhibits celebrating cutting-edge design.
Enjoy Car Free Day (22 Sep) – more than 200 streets are closed to traffic so you can enjoy a greener, safer city.
Finally, film lovers should head to Leytonstone Film Festival (27-29 Sep), part of our London Borough of Culture 2019.
I hope you have a great time in London this month.
