Mayor’s Letter: October 2019
Welcome to London this October
Our proud reputation as a global film capital is demonstrated with the 63rd BFI London Film Festival (2-13 Oct). More than 200 films from 77 countries are being screened and it begins with the European premiere of The Personal History of David Copperfield.
Our capital hosts the world’s biggest sports events. Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium presents National Football League games (6 & 13 Oct) and Wembley Stadium hosts an NFL game (27 Oct), while cyclists descend on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (22-27 Oct) for the Six Day London competition.
Waltham Forest, our first London Borough of Culture, hosts exciting events, too. GIANT (18-19 Oct) is a magical event for the family, where children, soloists and choirs perform from the canopies of the mature trees in Epping Forest.
St Paul’s Cathedral is illuminated by Historic England, where a projection tells the story of those who risked their lives in World War I. However you spend your time, have a wonderful visit.
