Mayor’s Letter: October 2017
A big welcome to London this October
If you’re a film buff, then you’ve come to the right place. The biggest celebration of cinema of the year, the 61st BFI London Film Festival, takes place from 4-15 October. With everything from blockbuster film premieres to independent movies and emerging talent, this festival is a great chance to catch exceptional cinematic gems.
Meanwhile, you can explore two of the art scene’s most influential events in Regent’s Park at Frieze London art fairs from 5-8 October. Frieze London showcases contemporary art, while Frieze Masters specialises in art from the ancient era and Old Masters.
Trafalgar Square is the setting for two major cultural celebrations. As part of Black History Month, London comes together for Africa on the Square, featuring live music, dancing and food, and highlighting the diverse communities from across the continent. Trafalgar Square is also transformed to usher in Diwali – the Hindu, Sikh and Jain festival of lights. This is a time for new beginnings, so immerse yourself in yoga and dance. Enjoy all London has to offer!
