Mayor's Letter: August 2017
A big welcome to London this August
Following the record-breaking World Para Athletics Championships, the summer of sport continues with the IAAF World Championships at the iconic London Stadium in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. See world-class athletes such as Greg Rutherford and Dina Asher-Smith, and watch legends Mo Farah and Usain Bolt in action before they hang up their running shoes.
School’s out for the summer, so make the most of the exciting talent that’s available on your doorstep. Bring your little ones to Kids Week and experience the thrill of London’s Theatreland – it’s free for children to go to any participating show. The highlight of August bank holiday is the Notting Hill Carnival. This annual event is a chance to appreciate the vibrant culture of London’s Caribbean community.
London’s largest open-air screen is also making a comeback at Somerset House, showing both contemporary and classic films underneath the stars on a balmy evening.
Enjoy the rest of your summer in our great city!
